German glass-maker Heinz‐Glas and lacquer manufacturer Weilburger have developed an invisible antibacterial coating that makes the glass surface self-cleaning. Thanks to this new technology, dubbed senoglass® Carecoating, glass bottles can be safely picked up on store shelves and at home as the surface fights microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses.
According to the two companies, the invisible protective shield destroys 99% of the pathogens Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and even more than 99% of coronaviruses [1] within an hour. The water-based coating is free from nanoparticles and harmful biocides, they added.
