Greentech, a supplier of active ingredients derived from plants, algae, micro-algae and biotechnologies for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets, has entered into partnership with the University of Antsiranana, Madagascar. The new co-operation scheme follows similar endeavours in South America (Peru) and West Africa (Burkina Faso).
Dedicated structure
A new common structure GreenMadag has been especially created for the development of new active compounds sourced from Madagascar’s flora, which is considered as having a high potential in medicinal applications. According to the terms of the agreement, the University of Antsiranana has provided Greentech with premises that the company has equipped in research laboratory. The lab features all necessary equipment for plant extraction and analytical control.
The GreenMadag laboratory will perform the first steps of the development of cosmetic ingredients, as well as extractions assays. According to Greentech this will create jobs for engineers and technicians in Madagascar as well as new income for local communities. Scale-up phases will then be performed in Greentech laboratory.
At the moment, the new organisation has started an educational program for the formation of competent technicians.
